Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

Week 1 - Pets

We have had a fun week in Class 5, we began our new topic which is "Paws, Claws and Whiskers."  We are learning about animals! We have learnt about St. Georges Day; we have  made knights, castles and shields. .

We compared body parts, of animals and humans .

In Maths we have started  to look at  fractions by  halving and quartering playdough pizza's.

We visited a  Pet Shop and enjoyed  looking at the animals, including rabbits, fish and hamsters.

On Friday, we had our first swimming lesson. In our Fun Friday session  we  enjoyed games and construction activities .

Week 2 - Farm

This week we have started to look at  Farm Animals and read the book "A squelch and a squeeze". We  looked at describing words and how we can use words such as colours or sizes to describe different things.  We have looked at what fruit and vegetables are grown on the farm and enjoyed planting our own seeds! In our outdoor area we created a pizza shop to continue to practice our fractions. We  used fruit and vegetables to create potato men and explore where seeds come from.

We started our "Experiments and Reactions" topic in Science, where we made magic milk!

We went to Wharton Park on the bus and had lots of fun on the zip line, climbing frame and outdoor gym.

Week 3 - At the Zoo!

We had another fun PE lesson with Asha, she played dodge ball and tag rugby with us! We also completed some maths work and we are coming to the end of our fractions topic! We have all had lots of fun learning about fractions and becoming pizza makers. We also read a story about a Zoo Vet and how he takes care of all the animals in the Zoo when they are poorly.

In Science we made fizzing lemons and limes, which made a lot of mess but we enjoyed it! We thought they might have exploded. In ICT, we made pictures of us as Zoo Keepers and wrote about what animals we would like to take care of.

We went to the Hancock Museum where we could see lots of different animals and a dinosaur! We also bumped into a magician who taught us some magic tricks and let us try the 3D glasses.

We created Zoo Faces using paper plates and made animal fact files, where we got to learn all about different animals. We also had another fun swimming lesson and fun friday afternoon.

Week 4 - Under the Sea!

This week we started our new maths topic which is position and direction. We enjoyed giving our friends directions and following the directions! We also looked at different sea animals and created fact files about what they eat, where they live and what they look like.

We used recycled materials to create under the sea creatures, we were all very creative! We also completed a mini PE lesson were we followed instructions to move like different animals.

In Science, we made lava lamps and enjoyed watching the mixture of oil and food coloring move around the bottle! Some of us completed a sensory story and others went on a story hunt, we were all really engaged.

As a special treat for all of our work, we went to the Beach with ice-lollies. We talked about what animals live in the sea. We learnt about road safety and went on a walk around the local area to practice being safe on roads.

Week 5 - Mini beasts

Wow, what a busy final week in Class 5! We have been so busy! We started the week with a mini Forest School where we made clay faces or animals! This was lots of fun and we all were very creative. We also got to go see Kev in Judo, we are really excited about having Judo next half term.

For Science, Amber finally gave in and completed the Cola and Mentos Explosion!! We have been asking her for weeks if we could do it. We read a story about a Caterpillar who was very worried about turning into a butterfly, but he worried for nothing as he loved being a butterfly.

Thursday was Outdoor Learning Day so we spent most of the day outside, just as well it was sunny! We started with some social games in the Discovery Park, then used our gross motor skills to ride bikes and hula hoop! In the afternoon we collected leaves and sticks to make stick people with.

Friday was Sports Day and we had lots of fun. We got to interact with some friends from Class 4 which was amazing! We also had a mini party to celebrate breaking up for half term and Max's birthday!
