Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

Spring 1

Week beginning 14th January.

There are 9 children in our class, and we are helped and supported by Daniela, Berny and Faye.

We have moved to a new classroom and have been finding our way around it and learning about our new friends.

Our topic this half term is The Weather. We will be looking at the different types of weather and talk about the clothes we wear in each season. When we go on the bus we will look at the natural world and discuss how things change depending on the weather.

On the first snowy day of the year we made toast. We all did well choosing a topping, and cutting the toast independently.

...

Week beginning 21st January.

We have enjoyed the story, "Mrs. Mopple's Washing Line" and have practiced pegging out our own washing which is trickier than it looks!

On Thursday, we went to Broomhouse Farm and saw the animals. We had our snack in the cafe and then played outside which was great fun because the weather was so nice. When we were at the farm we looked at changes in the weather compared to last Thursday when it was snowing and looked for signs that it is winter.

We have talked about the weather in different seasons and have started our new classroom display showing the four seasons.

Week beginning 28th January

Another fun week in Class 7 especially when the week ended with snow. We put on our wellies and got wrapped up to play outside  in the snow.

We enjoyed listening to the story "The Wind Blew" and talked about the different weather in the winter.

We also enjoyed the story "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and sorted different size objects into big small and medium.

When it was our turn for the bus we made a shopping list and went to three different shops, practising looking for the things on our list and paying for them ourselves. Once back at school, we helped to put everything away ready for when we need to use them.

It's Chinese New Year next week so we watched the dragon dance and made our own individual dragons.

Week beginning 4th February

This week we having been singing songs about our body and learning about our facial features and smaller body parts such as our elbows, and ankles. In ICT we drew and labelled  faces and bodies.

On Tuesday we celebrated Chinese New Year, the year of the pig. We snapped open fortune cookies and made different dragons to display in the dining hall ready for our special lunch.

When it was time for us to go on the bus, we made a shopping list and went to the shops. We took it in turns to hold the shopping list, look for the items and tick them off the list. At the checkout, we helped to scan the items and used coins to pay the money.

June came for our PE lesson. We practised listening to instructions, stopping, starting and moving in different directions. It was great fun on the climbing apparatus.

Week beginning 11th February:

At the start of the week, we all made a Valentine card, ready to take home on Thursday; we are sure you will like them.

Our story this week has been "Polar Bear Polar bear What do you Hear?", and we had fun making the animal noises. We sorted animals by the number of legs and used adjectives to describe the animals.

We have continued our word on facial features and our body parts and have been singing the Matman song, adding and naming the pieces. To help us with this work, we have been looking at curved and straight edges and have sorted them by length and shape. Some of us used PECs to request bricks by colour and size and built towers.

June was here again this week and we used some of our skills learnt last week to play games.
