Welcome back to school! We are so happy to be in Class 3 and we hope this is going to be a fantastic Year.
This half term we are going to be learning about fairy-tale stories throughout our topic ‘Will you tell me a story?’ The story of the week is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We listened to the story and learnt a new song about Jack. We also made pictures of a beanstalk using different creative green resources. We have developed our fine motor skills by finger gym exercises. In numeracy we sorted compare bears by colour, listened to counting songs and copied and followed patterns using beans and cheerio cereal. We are getting use to new routines within the class. We are working really hard to remember the faces and names of our friends and teachers.
Week 2 - Jack and the Beanstalk
This week we continued reading and listening to the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We used beans and pegs to develop our fine motor skills. We also coloured in colouring pages about the story and wrote our names using magnetic blocks and whiteboard and whiteboard pens. We used our imagination to play with props from the story. In Expressive Arts we painted beanstalks using green paint, glue and tissue paper. In maths we identified big/little using frogs and hula hoops. We followed patters using beans and frog counters. In our educational visit we went to Morrisons to buy some ingredients for our biscuits next week.
Week 3 - Sensory Story
This week we listened to the sensory story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ We encouraged children to request different props of the story while reading it on the whiteboard. Children totally enjoyed and were very keen to request props using symbols. In Science we planted a beanstalk using cotton wool, plastic cups, water and beans. Children verbalised ‘Oh magic beans’ interlinking their experience to the story of the week. In our educational visit we went to the park and encouraged children to climb up and down. We used our imagination to pretend we were climbing the beanstalk as Jack. In numeracy session we counted different beans according to the correct numeral.
We had another great week at school.
Week 4 - The Gingerbread Man
This week we listened to the sensory story ‘The Gingerbread man’. We encouraged children to request different props of the story while reading it on the whiteboard. Children totally enjoyed it and were very confident requesting props using symbols. In Science we looked at our magic beans growing. We commented about changes and different parts of the plants. In PE we had yoga session focused on Jack and the Beanstalk. We are getting more familiar with yoga movements. In expressive arts we decorated our gingerbread men using different creative resources to make a display in the class. In cookery session we baked gingerbread man. We also modelled gingerbread man using play dough.
Week 5 - Goldilocks and the Three Bears
What a week we've had in class 3! On Monday we had a visit from ‘Zoo Lab’ The man brought with him a variety of different creatures for us to look at and explore. They included a snake, rat and tarantula!!! The boys and girls were really brave and it was a lovely experience for them to take part in. Our theme this week is ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ We have listened to the story and watched songs. In one of our sessions we took turns looking in the mirror to see what we look like. We then drew ourselves and produced wonderful pictures for our display board. Our educational visit this week was a trip to Hetton park to look for the Gingerbread man and Goldilocks! They were nowhere to be seen!
Zoolab Visit - Monday 1st October
Week 6 - Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs
This week we have been really busy! We read our story of the week ‘Goldilocks and the 3 dinosaurs’ which we really enjoyed, especially playing with the props. We also made our own dinosaurs using stencils and paint. On our educational visit we went to the woods like in the story to look for Goldilocks and the 3 dinosaurs! We had lots of fun finding them and some bears! We've been working really hard on our number recognition and counting ‘how many’. We have used the whiteboard and counters to help us learn. Our Tuesday morning PE session was brilliant. We played games with the parachute and couldn't stop laughing when we had to get the beanbags off the parachute by lifting it high in the air. We needed our relaxing time at the end!
