Class 5 Spring 2
Hope you all had a nice week off and the children enjoyed themselves, despite the weather!
This half term our focus is going to be on 'animals'.
The children are in for a surprise on Monday as they enter into Class 5 Animal Lair!
We have a Jungle with hidden animals of the wild, stories and books for the children to explore and masks so they can pretend.
We won't stop there though...we will develop some other areas this half term with an Outdoor Farm and an Indoor Pet Shop.
The discovery of the EGG!!!
As you can see from the photographs, the children were very eager to see inside our Jungle area. We started our learning sessions with the discovery of the egg. All of the children got up to search out the egg. We played getting warmer/colder until the children found it buried on the floor of the Jungle. We explored the egg. The children wanted to listen to see if there was anything inside. We talked with the children about how we could keep it safe so we found some soft material and a box. The children made guesses as to what they thought was inside. Most of them thought it was a chicken....we will see!
As you all know (letter in diaries) the children are receiving some 'Kidzsafe' sessions from Carmela and Karen this half term. This programme focuses on PSHE topics surrounding; keeping safe, friendships, internet safety and more.
If you would like anymore information about these sessions please do not hesitate in contacting Karen Addison by ringing or emailing the school office.
We enjoyed our first session on Monday where the children explored 'trust'. We played some games, where the children had to hold another child up and the child in the middle had to trust the other children to do so.
We were also introduced to 'KZ' which is the programmes mascot (monkey puppet). He is very cute!
We will follow up the session at different times during the week to support with developing the children's understanding of these important messages.
Rhythmic Movement (RMTi)
Also this week, some of the children in the class have started sessions completing RMTi with Paula and Carmela. You will have received a letter at the end of last half term if your child was accessing sessions.
All of the children did very well in their first session. This session was to establish children's existing skills and look at what the focus of future sessions should include.
Again, if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact school.
We are continuing with Yoga sessions once a week. During these sessions the children are focusing on deep breathing and developing their core muscles. These skills will support children's physical development but also their regulation and skills in other areas of the curriculum, like; early writing, focus and attention, reading and communication.
This week we have reintroduced a visual choice board to be used when the children have continuous provision time. We had noticed a few of the children, during this learning time, needed a little guidance. The choice board is shown to the children at the beginning of 'choice' time to guide their play and learning. It has been a great success this week. If you look below you can see the children accessing their play opportunities with some purpose.
Caroline and Ann have been working hard to develop children within their Rebound sessions. Each child has their own plan and notes are made after every session to inform the next weeks Rebound session.
There are some lovely photographs of the children having fun and interacting with one another on the trampoline!
ORAL HYGIENE PRACTITIONER
For the past 2 weeks, on a Thursday, the children have had a visit from the Oral Hygiene Practitioner. She has helped the children brush their teeth, sort sugary and non-sugary foods and role play being a dentist.
They will have their final session this Thursday.
We love going out on the bus! This week we went to Pets Corner in Jesmond (10/3/20).
We saw all kinds of birds; we saw ducks, hens, rabbits, guinea pigs, peacocks and goats. We saw and heard a river and had a play in the park.
Going out on the bus gives us the opportunity to open the children up to the world around them.
