Class 1 Autumn 1

Week 2

This week we have been learning about 'Incredible Me'.  We manipulated and explored playdough and we were encouraged to make some playdough faces.  We also went to the Discovery Park to collect some nature items.  In expressive art we used these items to make a nature face.  Our teachers made a display with our nature faces.  In cookery we decorated some biscuit faces using icing sugar and sweets.

Week 3

In literacy we listened to the story 'Polar Bear, Polar Bear What do you hear?'  We learnt about different animal sounds.  In expressive art we decorated a polar bear using glue and cotton wool.  We took part in our PE session in the big hall.  In cookery we decorated some polar bear faces cakes using icing sugar, chocolate buttons.  We played in the light and sound room.  In maths we manipulated and explored compare bears.  We also sorted them by colours and counted them.

Week 4

This week we have been reading 'Incredible Me' and 'Who's making that noise?'.  We used a sensory approach to read the story. We continued with our rebound therapy sessions.  Children have been requesting more bouncing using words and Makaton signs.  We had our attention everyone session linked to our topic.  We sing 5 in the bed song and took part in Stage 3.  In expressive art we made an Autumn tree using paint and hand prints.  In our cookery session we made a body using different ingredients such as  crackers, ritz, breadsticks and grated cheese

Week 5

This week we have been listening to the sensory story 'Don't play with hedgehog'.  The children were able to request the props such as dig, fire, sun, etc.  In our math session we counted 5 currant buns.  We also counted pegs while placing them as spikes in our number hedgehogs.  In our creative area we placed some playdough onto the hedgehog playdough mats and added some spaghetti and counted some cereal.

Week 6

This week we have been practicing our tapping sticks skills.  This is a program which helps us to develop our body awareness. We also done MAT MAN. Some of us were able to draw mat man on our whiteboards, while other children helped build mat man on the floor with the correct props.  We also participated in a PE session with Foundation of Light. Our story of the week was MONKEY PUZZLE. We matched picture to picture and developed some new vocabulary. We took part in attention everyone interlinked to our story of the week. We sang 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed using shaving foam and we splatted them. We also washed them using a water spray bottle.

Week 7

This week we have started talking about Halloween.  Our story of the week was 'Webster witch's ugly potion'.  We placed different props to make an ugly potion.  In the PE session we played Halloween games using a parachute.  We made a fork hedgehog and green grass using dabbers to help our teachers with an Autumn display.  We took part in attention everyone interlinked to Halloween themed.  We celebrated Marcus' birthday having a party in our class.

Week 8

We have been very busy the last week of our Autumn 1 half term.  We listened to the story 'Room on the Broom'.  We visited the Hobbit House and looked at the Halloween decorations.  We painted some leaves to make ghosts to decorate our corridor for Halloween day.  We made some Halloween biscuits and decorated them with Halloween sparkles and icing sugar.  We carved our pumpkins and decorated them with funny faces.  We enjoyed playing in the different sensory tuff spots this week.
