Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

 Topic - 'Fantastic Fact Finders'

Spring 1

Sports Event

We were very active at the Stadium of Light

Playing games together and practicing our team work.

Mental Health Week

We have been thinking about how to look after our mental health this week.

We looked at the five ways to well-being and thought about all the things we could do in each area.

We talked about different emotions and what we can do when we feel each feeling.

Football Fun

We had Football week and enjoyed playing football with Gavin.

RNLI SOS day

We talked all about the importance of the RNLI this week.  We found out it means Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

We had a great visit to Cullercoats to see one of the 'in-shore' boats.  The mechanic was working on the boat to make sure it was ready for the next emergency.

Burn's Night

This week has been all about the Scottish poet Robert Burns.  We have discovered lots of facts about him and his place of birth Scotland.

We talked a lot about why and how people celebrate Burn's night. No one liked the sound of eating haggis except for Karen and Sarah.  So instead in cookery we made Scottish shortbread biscuits which have gone down a treat at snack time.

We made our own tartan weave pictures for our arts Award.

We have all been absolutely brilliant at our swimming lesson this week, everyone gave 100% effort and all are making excellent progress.

Chinese New Year

This week we have been finding out facts about the Chinese New Year, we now know that 2023 is the year of the rabbit and we also looked at which animal it was on the year that we were born.

Finding out the facts helped us to complete our 'Fantastic Fact Finder' booklets.

We made fortune cookies in cookery, which we enjoyed eating at snack time, they were delicious.

We have had Terry in doing more singing with us.

Some of us have been working with Paula and Carmela in an enterprise workshop.

Pauline the school dental nurse came to visit us this week, we talked about brushing our teeth twice a day and sorted food and drinks into which are kind and unkind to our teeth.  We pretended to be at the dentist.

We welcomed Sarah into our class this week as our permanent support for the rest of the school year.

Bird Watch Week

A wonderful week in Navy class, we have been bird spotting around the grounds of school.

So far we have only seen two crows and six blue tits!

We made pinecone, lard and breadcrumb feeders to attract more birds, we hung them in the Discovery Park and outside our classroom.

We have been finding out facts about different birds and the big school birdwatch.  We have written up the facts in our 'Fantastic Fact Finder' non-fiction work booklets and made a class fact book using the computer.

Gavin has been doing sensory dance with us, which has been great fun.

We have started work towards our 'Arts Award' and looked at the artist John James Audubon, he is a famous artist who loved to paint different birds.

Happy New Year

Welcome back - we have had a great three days back.
Our topic this term is ...

'Fantastic Fact Finders'

We are going to be looking at non-fiction and finding information about different topics. This week we talked about New Years and next week we will be doing Bird Watch Week.
