Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

Autumn 2

Our topic this half term is

Magic and Mixtures

Below is our Medium term plan.  Please take a look and see some of the things we will be doing. It also has a 'home' section on with some ideas that you can do with your child that link up to our topic. We'd love to see some photographs and hear all about your adventures! Please send any photos or updates through our school Dojo app.

Our 'Magic and Mixtures' topic this half term will be broken down each week to have a different magical or mythical focus. So far we have looked at Bonfire night, Autumn, Dragons and Unicorns

We have loved exploring and sharing the various tuff tray resources including natural Autumnal resources such as leaves, sticks, pumpkins, squashes and pine cones as well as a variety of other resources such as rice, sand, magic milk, blocks, fabrics, water beads, frozen peas, ice, lotions etc.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our magical themed Attention Everyone sessions. During our magical Sensology sessions we have been using our senses to;

*Look at magic scarves coming out of a magicians hat

*Listen to the loud BANG from a drum and from banger snaps

*Touch a magic ball

*Smell a magical puff of smoke (party popper)

*Taste some magical popping candy

Our Sensory Story has been 'A kiss That Missed'. It is a funny story about a King who tried to give his son a goodnight kiss, however the kiss missed and went flying on a magical journey. It went flying through a snowy forest full of scary animals and ended up flying up a dragons nose, before being sneezed back out. Our props in this story included small world characters, a pom pom kiss, flour sprinkling snow, slimy hair gel for the wolves snarly mouths, a large dragon puppet and a spray bottle for his sneeze! We made up simple sentences using symbols to retell the story throughout and each week the children have been recalling the story and predicting what will come next.

We have been been focusing on cause and effect in our ICT session. We have used various computer programmes to help engage the children and have also been working on our mouse skills. We have loved exploring the switches on our light up and noisy toys as well as on all the equipment in the light and sound room.

We have made some fabulous creations in arts and crafts sessions including dragons eggs, leaf hedgehogs, Leaf owl bags, unicorn tissue paper heads, magic cauldrons, fire breathing dragon pictures and playdough Pudsey Bears.

In our Early Maths sessions we have been counting out and adding leaves onto a tree, pegs onto a unicorn cutout and building towers for the dragon to knock down! We've also used our colour symbols to request different coloured jewels and tissue paper for our crafts.

In PE we have had the SAFC footballers come in teach is how to safely climb around an obstacle course. We have also been participating in 'Sensory Dance'. In this session we move, shake and follow movement instructions using various props in time to specific music.

In Cookery this half term we are practicing and developing our skills to make ice-cream sundaes. We are enjoying scooping, chopping, sprinkling, drizzling and eating! Each week we are becoming more and more independent while making our desserts.

We have continued to develop our sharing, turn taking and gross motor skills in areas around school such as the Ball pool, Discovery Park, Sensory room, Playground and also at the park during our Educational Outings each week.

This half term our preparing for adulthood well-being focus has been teeth brushing. In this relaxed session we listen to a song all about brushing our teeth, watch a demonstration and then follow visual instructions to brush our teeth. Every smell and lick of the toothpaste is celebrated and all the children are now independently attempting to brush their teeth! They also look in a mirror while an adult helps them to scrub their teeth at the back. To find our song and carry on this topic at home search for 'British council songs - Brush bus' online.

We have had lots of fun celebrating the magic of Christmas. During our arts and crafts sessions we have made lots of Christmas themed things including Elf masks to take 'Elfie Selfies', Christmas trees using natural resources, gingerbread play dough, bauble Christmas cards, snowflakes and crowns. We also joined in lots of activities including Santa Dash, Christmas lunch, disco's, meeting Santa and a movie day in our pyjamas! We have loved exploring our Christmas themed tuff spots filled with ice, tinsel, Frozen themed mountains and small world play, Christmas tree villages, winter train tracks and snow (flour, icing sugar, white pay dough, porridge oats, mashed potato and actual snow).
