Autumn 1

Hello and welcome to sky class.

We hope you all had a fabulous summer holiday and are looking forward to being back in school.

In our class there are 11 children who are supported by Daniela and Berny.

Our topic this half term is "This is Me", and we have lots of fun activities ready for everyone.

 

These are some of the topics we will be covering this term, as well as some ideas to try out at home...

Communication/Early Reading

  • Take part in role play activities
  • Listen to stories and answer questions
  • Answer questions relating to an event
  • Answer who” “what”  “where” questions
  • Use pronouns correctly
  • Use prepositions correctly
  • Ask for help when we need it
  • Talk about our likes and dislikes 
  • Talk about our families, friends and the people who are important to us. 

Early Reading & Writing

  • Pencil control and handwriting skills
  • Writing sentences to match pictures
  • Read words and sentences in the environment
  • Dictate sentences for a picture
  • Sequence stories
  • Draw a picture to match a sentence
  • Read traditional tales
  • Role play 

Early Maths

  • To begin to follow daily routine- having some awareness of what comes next 
  • Count and order numbers to 10
  • Write numbers to 10
  • Continue patterns
  • Join in with counting songs by handling objects, singing, signing, observing/recognising numerals
  • Count objects/pictures in different contexts
  • To fill and empty and compare quantities during cookery and continuous provision (sand and water) 

Creative Development

  • Explore 2d and 3d art
  • Observational drawings/paintings of faces using mirrors and window panels, noting similarities and differences
  • Explore different materials/ textures to create collages of own face

Physical/Sensory

  • Explore malleable materials. Provide different coloured doughs. 
  • Experiment with the mixing of colours.
  • Use a knife and fork at lunchtime
  • Use Zones of Regulation to describe how we feel
  • Map feelings of characters in a story

  • To join in with PE sessions developing skills of balancing, throwing, catching, stopping and starting to music

PSHE

  • To make positive relationships with new adults and children 
  • To begin to follow new routines
  • To begin to know where toys/resources are kept in new learning environment

  • Retell traditional tales- The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The three Little Pigs and encourage children to join in with the refrain.
