Animals Near and Far

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

This week we started our new topic "Animals Near and Far". In Attention Everyone we have had lots of fun making a dog picture and guessing the animal as it appeared. In maths we have been counting animals and recognizing numerals.

In P.E we have been moving like animals our favourite was "lying like a cat". We did really well with our phonics lesson finding out initial sounds. It was lots of fun popping the hot air balloon. In Art this week we recreated a picture of a dog like Eric Carle.

In science we used different senses to explore animal foods.

This week we continued learning all about pets. We have done lots of counting work in maths both on the IWB, writing numbers, finding numbers and making the correct amount of fish from play dough. We had our first judo session this week and it was lots of fun. In cookery we ordered instructions to make a cheese sandwich and we all tried really hard to make one ourselves. In cookery this term we are working on independence skills so watch out by the end of term to see what we can make! In phonics we worked on the sound "S" this week. This week we visited Pets at Home at Gateshead. However the only pet that we seen was a baby hamster hahah we enjoyed looking at all the things needed to take care of a pet. We will be finishing pets this week ready to start looking at all things farm animal related next week.

This week we have been focusing on Farm Animals. In our Attention everyone sessions we have made a sheep from paper plates and also put the animals into the correct place in the farmyard. In Maths this week we started the week with some pattern work then ended the week learning all about prepositions. We had a visit from the dentist all about dental hygiene. In phonics this week we have been focusing on the "a" sound. This week we went for a long drive on the bus to find some farm animals. We found some cattle and some sheep. We have looked at the story The Little Red Hen and all the ingredients she needed to make her bread.

Next week we are going to be doing Jungle Animals.

This week we have been looking at Jungle Animals. We started the week by listening to the story "Rumble in the Jungle". In literacy we have been able to listen to the story and then make sentences using colorful semantics. We have been learning all about " more" in maths and we have played games, looked at resources and done some number work all about this. We like it if we have "more". In phonics we have been continuing our phase 2 work and we are trying really well with our sound work. We can now differentiate some sounds that we hear. We started using water colours in art and we were able to follow the instructions to paint a beautiful picture for our display. During our snack time this week we have been watching Madagascar and identifying the different jungle animals that we can see. We also done more work on charanga.

This week we have been looking at Arctic Animals. We have enjoyed listening to the story Polar Bear Polar Bear and we were really good at making some colorful semantics sentences to link in with the story. In maths we have been learning all about shapes, finding shapes, sorting shapes and drawing shapes. We made sandwiches in cookery this week and we are getting so much better at been independent at finding all the things we need. It won't be long and we will be able to make you a sandwich! We visited Whitburn Park this week and loved running in the wind. For science this week we explored hot and cold.

This week we have been looking at underwater animals. We created a crab and a octopus in Attention Everyone. We are doing really well at listening to the instructions in stage 4 then independently following them. In cookery this week we finished off our theme of cheese sandwiches/toast and independently chose our favorite and followed the instructions to make it.

We have started something new in phonics we are doing "say it..make it..write it" and a lot of the children are trying really hard with this new skill. In maths we have been ordering our numbers on different sea creatures. In science this week we attempted to melt the ice to find the hidden sea creatures.
