The purpose of the Rainbow classes is one of longer-term informal assessment to help signpost pupils to our different pathways. We know through experience and through study that autistic pupils with learning difficulties have splintered skills profiles and do not learn in a linear fashion like mainstream peers. Learning can be staccato with small steps, plateaus, leaps and bounds. Often when exposed to a more specialist provision, previously unidentified skills or needs can come to the fore.

Groupings in the Rainbow classes may change as we discover more about the pupils in each class. The approach is very similar to the Red Pathway initially, but does see planning take in activities commonly seen in the green pathway.
