Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

Autumn 2

Autumn half term topic is 'Let's Celebrate!'

Let's Celebrate! - Exploring some celebrations that we experience in our world.

Medium Term Plan:

First few weeks celebrating Halloween, Bonfire night Thanksgiving and Remembrance Day.

What a fantastic first week back we have had. We have jumped in feet first into all of the Halloween festivities!! We have created bats to hang upside down from the ceiling. We have acted in the Hobbit House as Count DRACULAAA! wearing a cape and shining a torch on our chins shouting 'Muahahah!' like a vampire. We have also completed so many tasks in Literacy and Numeracy where we have been practicing our digraph phonics sounds of 'ZZ, CK, FF, SS and LL' and looking at how to form the letters, pronounce them and also trying to spell those words too like 'fizz, well and kick'.

We have had a fantastic week in Royal class, this half term we have been investigating all of the different celebrations around the world that we can squeeze in! This week has been all about birthdays and what we do! We have also touched upon thanksgiving to and spoke about what were grateful for. We have been working out odd and even number, counting to 20 and writing down what we are thankful for to make our giant turkey for on the wall!!

Diwali and Hanukkah celebrations.

What a marvellous week in Royal class we have had. For our celebrations topic we have been looking at the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah which is the festival of light. We have learned all about why some people may celebrate this, what the 'Menorah' candle is for and also what they may do to celebrate like spinning the dreidel games.

We have finished the week on celebrating the Christmas countdown beginning, only 24 sleeps to go. We have all worked together to put up the Christmas tree in Royal class and it looks beautiful and very original!

We have been exploring Hanukkah in Maths too where we have been counting the menorahs, candles and coins and also learning what 'One more than' means. Next week we will focus on 'One less than' which will help us with our mental maths!

Birthday week.
