Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

Spring 1

This half term we are going to be exploring our planet and looking at all of the different continents each week. Our topic this time is called:

        Our Continents!

So far this half term we have explored over half of the world! We have been to Antarctica, Europe, North and South America and then to Africa.

Antarctica!

Europe!

This week we have learned all about our own continent, Europe! We have learned some facts about the different countries in Europe such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany and France! We have been making flags out of playdoh, investigated an artist from Germany called Andreas Gursky and his cool photography style and have been snapping shots around school trying to recreate our own versions. In literacy we have been practicing our writing and wrote a piece on our swimming experience from a modelled sentence strip. We also have been problem solving and practicing our numbers 1-30 and 1-50 for some children. In Music we used our passports to travel to Spain and we have explored flamenco music.
We had our first swimming lesson this week which we loved and did fantastic with, we used pool noodles and float pads to guide through the water on our fronts and backs, we also started to swim through hula hoops in the water! We are so proud of you super stars!

America, North and South!

We thoroughly enjoyed swimming and can't wait for our next lesson, for some of us, its our first ever time learning to swim so we were super excited to get in the water and learn survival skills and front crawl for some children, we were also practicing going under water and swimming through weighted hula hoops in the pool. We showcased our skills and impressed our instructor and teachers!
This last week, we were learning all about North and South America. We explored the depths of multiple music types and artists all around America and we loved the blues music especially in Charanga, our music lesson.
In cookery we made a famous American meal, the hot dog! We followed the instructions to be able to cook independently and making our own meals. In phonics we have been practicing reading and spelling our phase 2 and 3 words like 'get, tap, sad, cap and cup'. In Maths we have began to look at subtraction and how we 'take away'. We have used numerous resources to practice taking away up to the number 10 and up to 20 for some children.
Well done Royal Class, another fantastic week!

Africa!
