Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

Spring 2

Our topic this half term is all about me and my community. We want to engage with different aspects of people within the community, future work experiences and who works in our community too. We want to learn who the people are who might help us and dive into real life experiences. In science, we also aim to explore our environment what and who lives in our habitat and also investigating other habitats around the world.

     Me and My Community!

Our topic this half term is all about me and my community. We wanted to engage with different aspects of people within the community, future work experiences and who works in our community too. We want to learn who the people are who might help us and dive into real life experiences. In science, we have been exploring our environment and who lives in our habitat and also investigating other habitats around the world.

This week in literacy we have had a focus on colourful semantics which is a program that we follow in school, working on parts of a sentence, deciding what they are and what they mean and making our sentences make sense. We began this half term using ‘orange words=who? yellow words= what doing?, green words= to what?’ which would allow the children to create their own sentence like “The policeman is driving the car.”. From this we have worked really hard to progress to adding a ‘where’ section to make our sentences more precise and descriptive. This is all in preparation for writing skills in the future and to be able to hopefully write independently. Some children this week have made sentences such as ‘The paramedic was helping the people in the hospital.’, we would listen to the children's composed sentence, write it down on a whiteboard (scribing) and then they would assist pointing out where the full stop needs to be and the capital letter. Some other children have been focusing upon leaving a finger space between their words when writing. We have been trying so hard to remember our capital letter at the beginning and full stops when copying our work down.
