This half term our topic is

Under the Sea

Please take a look at our Medium Term Plans. There is an 'At home' section filled with ideas you and you child could enjoy together. We would love to hear and see photographs all about your adventures at home and in the community. Please keep us updated through the dojo app.

World Art Week

Attached are some pictures we have taken of our children taking part in our art week session. In school, our school council members were each allocated a country, and had to pick an artist from that country. Scarlet class got England! The artist we have chosen is Andy Goldsworthy. The children done extremely well mimicking some of Andy's work. The children chose the pebbles by ordering the stones based on size, so that the biggest ones went at the bottom, and gradually got smaller to make a beach pebble tower! We also made some spirals with our beach stones just like Andy!

Each week we looked at different themes, such as fish, octopus, shark, and pirates! In Maths we have been looking at counting 1-10. We took part in a maths treasure hunt, where we looked at our Columbia grange treasure map to choose different areas in school and hunt for our number tiles. We also did some fishing with our fishing rods, where we caught the fish in order 1-10.

We have been practicing our fine motor skills by doing lots of threading, as well as string onto our shark mouths that we made in art. The children also applied their fine motor practice in cookery, by scooping ice cream, chopping bananas, squeezing strawberry sauce, and pouring sprinkles. Some children even tried the sundaes! In our last cookery session, the children attempted to independently remember each cookery step and they did a great job at making them!

We have made lots of beautiful art work this half term, we have painted bubble wrap and paper plates with paint and made jelly fish, the children also enjoyed doing handprint octopus and gluing the cheerios to make tentacles.

This half term we have thoroughly enjoyed our PE swimming sessions, where we have focused on building up our confidence in the water, we have been progressing each week where we splash, and even pour the water onto our bodies and hair.

In our wellbeing sessions we have been practicing our calm breathing, listening skills with the chimes and relaxed with under the sea themed massages.

We have all worked really hard developing our concentration and attention skills within our Sensology, Attention Everyone and Sensory Story sessions.  We used our senses to explore various props during during these sessions. Our Sensory stories have been 'Come and take a dive with me' and 'Pirates love underpants!'.

All of the children have really enjoyed learning about “under the sea” as well as the sea creatures and pirates this half term.
