Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

Cobalt Class - Spring 1

This half term, we have been making cheese scones in our cookery lessons and have worked super hard to become independent! At the end of term, we hosted our very own version of "The Great Cobalt Bake Off" to put our skills to the test. The children baked for our 2 guest judges, class teacher -  Gavin and our deputy head teacher - Rosey! Each child came up with 3 of their very own adjectives to persuade the judges to pick their product as the winner!

The judges scored our scones based on aesthetic, smell, taste and choice of adjective. After a very difficult decision, the judges voted Isaac as our "Star Baker".  The children loved being part of our show. Well done to everyone involved!

Science - Marvelous Magnets!

This half term, we have been looking at magnetism! We have been making predictions as to whether an object would be "magnetic or non-magnetic". We then tested and recorded our findings. We learnt that objects made from metal would always stick to a magnet and non-metal objects would not.

As our lessons developed, we moved away from simplified language and learnt the meaning of "attract and repel". We learned about the "north and south pole" of a magnet and tested how the different pole combinations would either attract to one another or repel one another.  We then took a trip to the Discovery Museum where we applied our new knowledge to help us solve fun magnetism problem solving puzzles and games!

Dental Nurse

This week, we were visited by the dental nurse where we looked at different foods with a high sugar content and discussed the impact this could have on our teeth. We then had a look at some of the tools dentists use when checking a persons dental health. Take a look!
