Our topic this half term is

Shopping and Restaurants

Easter

Below is our Medium term plan.  Please take a look and see some of the things we will be doing. It also has a 'home' section on with some   ideas that you can do with your child that link up to our topic. We'd love to see some  photographs and hear all about your adventures! Please send any photos or updates through our school Dojo app.

This half term we learned all about shopping and restaurants. In the first week we set up a pretend supermarket where we role played filling our baskets with food items and practised exchanging coins in order to buy our shopping. During weeks 2 and 3 we set up a role play cafe/restaurant. Within our restaurant we had a kitchen area in which the children loved to explore various foods such as fruits, vegetables, tinned foods, cereals, pastas etc. We made collages of the foods we liked/disliked, painted with fruit and veg and made ‘puffy paint’ ice cream art. We manipulated playdough into fruit shapes and used fruity tea bags to create Mother’s Day cards.

Our sensory story focused on a trip to the supermarket. The children explored the items found and played a memory game to see if they could remember the items on the list. Our story massage focused on particular moves in time to a song all about transport. In our early Math's sessions we enjoyed the five currant buns and 10 fat sausages songs as well as going on a number hunt around school using the large shopping trolley.

We celebrated World book Day in Little Red Riding Hood style! We listened to a Little Red Riding Hood song on the whiteboard and played with the props during our sensory story. We also had lots of fun in the hall jumping and lying on Granny’s bed, walking through the forest, carrying baskets of apples and dressing up as characters from the story.

For the last 2 weeks of the Spring term we celebrated Easter! We created lots of wonderful crafts including a sock bunny, footprint bunny plates, feather chicks, bunny silhouettes and chocolate nest cupcakes. We went on an Easter egg hunt around the garden and explored of Easter themed resources during our Attention Everyone, Sensology and Sensory Story sessions.

This half term we started a relaxing yoga session with Paula and Carmela from ‘The Calm Corner’. The children really enjoyed 1:1 support with yoga stretches, relaxation poses, singing and gentle humming with twinkly lights and calming music.

For our PE session we went swimming. Everyone absolutely loved being in the water, playing with the toys and going under the water jets! Each child was pulled with the support of a familiar adult and had some 1:1 time with the swimming instructor. We worked on skills such as blowing bubbles, walking, kicking our legs and for some of us even dunking our heads under the water! We all received a certificate of achievement stating what amazing skills we achieved in the water.
